The Rays make three more roster additions as the end of the regular season approaches

Following the Durham Bulls winning the Triple-A Championship, ending their season, the Tampa Bay Rays made three roster additions as they selected the contracts of INF Daniel Robertson and RHP Chih-Wei Hu from Triple-A Durham, and they also activated LHP Xavier Cedeno from the 60-day disabled list. A corresponding move to clear a 40-man roster spot has not been announced.

Daniel Robertson made his first major league squad out of opening day and spent the majority of the season as a backup infielder for Kevin Cash and the Rays. During his first taste of major league action, Robertson slashed .211/.302/.340 with 5 HR over 223 plate appearances over 66 games played, good for a 75 wRC+ and 0.2 fWAR.

Chih-Wei Hu has been a mainstay on the Durham shuttle since his original promotion back in late April. After starting the season in the Durham starting rotation, Hu transitioned to the bullpen following his brief cup of coffee in the majors. Hu has now been promoted six times this season, but has only pitched in four major league games, allowing two runs — one earned — one four hits, while he has walked four and struck out nine over 8 innings pitched.

Xavier Cedeno was supposed to be one of the sure things of the Rays bullpen heading into the season, but once the season commenced, it was clear something wasn’t right with him and he’d be placed on the disabled list in mid-April. Now, finally healthy, Cedeno rejoins the Rays following a brief rehab assignment.

All three players aren’t expected to join the team until Thursday.
