Rays 3, Cardinals 2 – Holy Homers, LoMo!
Tampa Bay wins in the 10th thanks to Morrison’s two-homer game
It’s been one heckuva a renaissance for one Justis Logan Morrison, that’s for sure. Today, he launched his 30th and 31st home runs over Busch Stadium’s center field fence to lock down a Tampa Bay triumph.
The first was in the 4th inning to put the first run of the game on the board. The second was in the 10th to put the last run there as well, securing a Rays victory in extra innings.
Chris Archer pitched a gem today, striking out 8 Cardinals over 7 frames while giving up just 5 hits and one run, courtesy of a 7th inning solo shot by Kolten Wong. Brad Miller’s homer in the top of that frame had put the Rays up 2-0, but Wong’s homer narrowed that gap to one.
With Dan Jennings pitching in relief, yet another solo homer, this one being of the Matt Carpenter variety, tied the game 2-2 in the 8th.
A bullpen battery of Cishek, Romo and Colomé held the Cardinals scoreless through the 10th, allowing LoMo’s second homer to be the deciding run of a 3-2 final.
The Rays head west to Kansas City next, sporting a 65-67 record and still just 3 games out of a Wild Card spot, behind several others vying for that position.
Hey… stranger things have happened. Let’s hope things get weird!
