The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been counting on Jameis Winston and Mike Evans to generate most of their offense this year, and today is no different. The Chiefs are stifling Doug Martin, at least on the ground, and forcing the Bucs to throw the ball. And sometimes that really works. Like on this play.

What’s key here is not just the throw by Jameis Winston, which is on point and that has not always been the case, but the block by Doug Martin to give him time. Too often in recent weeks, the Bucs’ pass protection has broken time at key points.

This time it holds up, and the result is a beautiful throw and terrific catch by the best receiver receiver the Bucs have had in at least a decade. I’m not kidding here: that’s how good Mike Evans has been this season.

Unfortunately, the Bucs settled for a field goal after getting the ball that close to the goal line. That could come back to bite them, as they’ve been uncharacteristically sluggish in the red zone.
