Tampa Bay Lightning ten-game stats report: keep doing what you’re doing

December 14th, 2017

The Lightning are playing like one of the best teams in the NHL. I’d like to start this in-depth quantitative review of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s performance through their first thirty games by acknowledging the most important contributor to the team so far this season: us. Yes, us. That lucky shirt we wear every game? It’s working. We should keep wearing it. Keep washing it exactly as often as we have been. We drink the same beverages in the same order during every game? That’s working too. Keep doing that. We take our dogs out during the same timeouts every game? Hey, they might have... Read More

Cory Conacher clicking with Alex Killorn and Yanni Gourde. Forward injuries and more in Joe Smith’s Journal [Tampa Bay Times] “It’s nice you get up in the zone a little bit more, create some speed in transitional play,” Johnson said. “You’re more of a north-south, straight up and down kind of game. And playing with those guys, they’re great players, it’s a lot of fun.” Always follow your rebound. #TBLvsSTL... Read More

CrunchCast 28: Syracuse Crunch extend winning streak to nine games

December 13th, 2017

For the Syracuse Crunch, the first month and a half of the season was almost exactly what we expected. Syracuse came into October with a plethora of fresh young faces that struggled to adjust to the pro game out of the gates. We always knew the talent was there and that they would eventually figure it out and put together some good hockey games late in the season. What we didn’t expect was to be eating our words by mid-November. Head coach Ben Groulx’s young team hasn’t lost a game since November 19th, a stretch where they have compiled an impressive nine-game winning streak. They have... Read More

Quick Strikes: Tampa Bay Lightning’s Andrei Vasilevskiy improves to 8-0-0 against the west

December 13th, 2017

Which bodes very, very well. The Bolts Before I get to the articles singing Tampa Bay Lightning’s praises in last night’s game, here are a few more post-game notes care of Lightning beat writer Bryan Burns. Jon Cooper’s quotes about the game are a pretty good summary of the hard work Andrei Vasilevskiy did to kee the team alive in the second: In the second period, we let them have a chance to get right back in the game and our goalie had to bail us out. And then, our third period, we scored in the third, we had some chances actually to extend it, but in the end, we were just... Read More

Quick Strikes: Youth taking over the Tampa Bay Lightning organization

December 13th, 2017

Vasilevskiy, Sergachev, Point, Cirelli, Raddysh, Howden, Foote, Katchouk… The Bolts Young stars shone in Tampa Bay’s 3-0 win over St. Louis. Brayden Point scored the game winner, Nikita Kucherov found himself a goal as well, with Tyler Johnson capping a two-point night with the empty net goal. Oh, and did I mention that Andrei Vasilevskiy got another shutout? [Raw Charge] “23-year-old Vasilevskiy earned himself the first star of the night with a 32-save performance for his third shutout of the season and seventh of his young career. He credited his team for the shutout who, despite... Read More

Recap: Andrei Vasilevskiy and Tampa Bay Lightning make St. Louis sing the shut-out blues

December 13th, 2017

Nikita Kucherov wins the sniper battle against Vladimir Tarasenko. The Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Louis Blues played a very tight and even game, but the top team in the East and NHL came out with a 3-0 win thanks to a couple of very lucky bounces. That’s five wins in a row for the Bolts! Let’s get started with who played in the game. The Lightning went with 12F/6D but had to swap Cory Conacher in for Ryan Callahan, who was a game-time scratch. Looks like Ryan Callahan is a surprise scratch here for #tblightning, along with Sustr and Coburn. Conacher and Brown in — Joe Smith (@TBTimes_JSmith)... Read More

December 12th, 2017

Despite a depleted roster, the Thunder managed a split of their weekend slate. Before we get started on the recap, the story behind the photo that accompanies this post: Very cool moment between @Riopel_N and a fan over in Section C, called a little kid over and asked if he wanted his stick. Nicely done sir! — Seth Cooper (@Seth_Coop) December 9, 2017 Now that we all had a feel good moment, let’s get to the business at hand. As the weekend drew near, the Adirondack Thunder found themselves... Read More

Should the Tampa Bay Lightning trade for Erik Karlsson?

December 12th, 2017

More Swedes are good, right? Whenever a star player on a struggling team enters the final years of his contract, trade rumors surface. It happened with Steven Stamkos, it happened with Matt Duchene, and it’s happening with John Tavares. Another name that is under contract until 2019 is Erik Karlsson, and the rumor speculation just kicked up a notch. Over the weekend it was widely reported that Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion has asked his best player for a list: no, it wasn’t his Christmas list, it was his approved trade teams list. Now, while Karlsson is a special player, this request seems... Read More

Quick Strikes: the Tampa Bay Lightning are becoming near-unstoppable

December 10th, 2017

Yes, I did slide a Drake quote in on a Sunday morning. The Bolts Brayden Point, Mikhail Sergachev, and Yanni Gourde all shone fir the Tampa Bay Lightning in their win over the Winnipeg Jets. From a Canadian Bolts fan, this game was an instant classic. Saturday Night, two teams at the top of the league carrying oodles of star-power, and Bob Cole, baby. [Raw Charge] “Tampa Bay trailed, then led, then trailed again in this game. That kind of roller coaster can mess with a team’s emotions and, in turn, their mentality. Tampa Bay never stopped playing their game throughout the evening.” Cooper... Read More

Tampa Bay Lightning edge the Winnipeg Jets in overtime 4-3

December 10th, 2017

A slugfest of a game ended in pure joy as Brayden Point sealed Tampa Bay’s fourth straight win. Poor officiating will be the most memorable storyline from this evening’s game as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 Saturday night. Multiple missed calls (most of them of the tripping variety) and a goaltender interference penalty continue to make this writer (and many in the hockey community) completely unsure what goaltender interference actually is. The first 10 minutes of the opening period showcased how deadly Winnipeg can be when all of their horses are running. Winnipeg... Read More
